high percentage abnormal spermFrom: Andi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 7 Oct 2001 08:49:58 -0500 (CDT)
My husband was recently tested and the dr. discovered he has a high percentage of abnormal sperm. About 4% are normal, when most men have 14% normal in order to be considered fertile. However, his sperm count is much higher than average at 132 million. We did the math and figured out that his high count counteracts the low percentage of normal sperm, giving him about 5% normal per ejaculation. Is our calculation correct? Also, we have gotten pregnant three times in one year, although each pregnancy resulted in miscarriage. The first two were very early and the last one was at 9 weeks due to xxy. We wonder if my husband's abnormal sperm are causing miscarriage. And we also wonder if it matters that his percentage of normal sperm is so low due to his high sperm count. Will we have a hard time getting pregnant in the future or does our past record seem to indicate we will conceive? I would welcome your analysis, doctors.
