Disseminated intravascular coagulopathy is the correct name I think. It was explained to me as when the body goes into shock and uses up all the clotting factor in the blood, thus causing uncontrollable bleeding. I almost bled to death from the placental site and my c-section incision.

And yes, Judi, you're right, had the doctor not been there I might not have made it anyway. HOWEVER, in a hospital, I would have at least had a fighting chance with instant ventilation and recusitation measures. At home I would have had NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER. Every person must weigh the risk for herself and make her own choice. But when I think of having gone through nine months of pregnancy, then almost not making to to even see my daughter once or hold her, and leaving my husband to raise her alone, I feel pretty foolish to have considered taking such a big risk. Entering a highly skilled facility designed to provide the most advanced medical care seems a small sacrifice to make for the safety of myself and my child.
