Re: To all ladies who have had a normal or 'walking' epidural

I had epidurals with both of my deliveries... WIth my first, it had worn off so much that I felt the urge to push very strongly, ring of fire, tremendous pressure, etc. Everything hurt all the time, even inbetween contractions. I think all the sensations were dulled, but I did feel all that stuff to some degree. WIth my second, it was pretty much the same, although the epidural had not worn off, I felt shooting pains down the backs of my legs, strong urge to push, and lots of discomfort when the head shoulders were deliverd. The nice thing about epidurals is that you can control the urge to push, ease the head out slowly, and help to avoid tears and the need for an episiotomy.

I don't think anything deadens those sensations completely, and I can never imagine going through delivery without the epidural. My hats off to you for doing it twice all natural! :)
