Clomid 3-7 OR 5-9

My dr. believes me to be ovulating on my own, but prescribed Clomid 50mg to produce stronger ovulation a few days later in my cycle. I was ovulating according to OPK on day 12-13 and my dr. thinks day 16-17 would be better. He had me take it days 3-7. The first cycle I got a plus OPK on day 13. The second cycle still the same thing - cd 13. Do you think maybe I should try taking the Clomid days 5-9 to accomplish the day 16-17 ovulation that my dr. was shooting for??? Also if I start my period past 8:00 PM at night and it is a heavy flow (not spotting) should I count that as cycle day 1 or call the next day cycle day 1??? Thanks for the advice. I really love this website!
