31 weeks, c-diffocele and flagyl. Opinion, please!From: erin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 1 Oct 2001 22:23:08 -0500 (CDT)
Hi! I a 31 weeks and having a tough pregnancy. I have been on strict bedrest since 23 weeks due to preterm labor. when i was hospitalized last time, I was given clindomycin IV as part of protocol for preterm labor. About 7 days later, I tested pos for c-diffocele. It cleared up with flagyl, but returned right away. I am about to be done with round of flagyl #2. This has been so distressing to me, as I am finding out that c-diff can be a lifelong problem. I am taking pro-biotics ("friendly yeast") and acidophilous. How often do you see this? and do you usually obtain CBC and cultues before starting antimicrobial therapy, or do you just give it per protocol(for PTL)? Third, I know that flagyl is category B, but do you think 2 rounds back to back is hard on baby and should I obtain liver panel? Just wanted your thoughts. THANK YOU!!!
