Re: unknown pregnancy and alcoholFrom: Louise (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 30 Sep 2001 17:23:30 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Heather, I have a friend who's an alcoholic. She's tried rehab about six times. During her pregnancies (25 years ago) she continued to drink to excess. I was sure her kids would be born with foetal alcohol syndrome. They weren't! They were normal, both girls, of average intelligence, now grown up and married. Six beers doesn't seem a lot to me.....but then I'm Australian! I work in an area where heroin addicts have babies frequently, and I teach the kids of these unfortunate mothers. The kids are mostly fine - though a lot seem to be hyperactive. I think you're worrying too much.
