How exactly does the OPK work?

I am on day 14 after menses. I took an OPK this afternoon and it came out positive. THis is the first time I take one. I just wanted to know if that means I haven't ovulated YET or am I ovulating now? As of Friday, day 12, I've been experiencing clear very stretchy mucus still until today. Today it seems more milkyish but STILL stretchy. What's going on? Am I getting ready for ovulation or am I ovulating NOW?
