Nursing--Anemic and have OsteoporosisFrom: amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 26 Sep 2001 19:34:44 -0500 (CDT)
I am nursing my one year old and have anemia that is not getting better despite Iron treatment (my hct is 31 and hgb ranges between 9-10). I also have osteoporosis and have stress fractures in my ribs due to carrying my 1 year old around. (The osteoporosis is due to long term steroid use. I have SLE and know that contributes to my chronic anemia. My question-- Does nursing also contribute to making it difficult to recover from the anemia and/or bone loss? In other words, is the baby stealing my iron and calcium? Thank you for your help.
