Re: 22 weeks and no kicking felt yetFrom: Meredith (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 21 Sep 2001 15:40:34 -0500 (CDT)
Jan, I started feeling real movement at about 17.5 weeks... I've felt three different types of movements. The first really does seem to feel gas bubbles, but in a place where I at least have never had that "bubble rising" sensation, very low and in front, probably 3 inches above the pubic bone, also from deep inside, very low. I thought this was my imagination or gastric at first, but then realized I'd never had this much gastric activity in this area. Then I've felt nudges, distinct from my gastric system and occuring in different areas, always an inch or more below my navel but on both sides and in the middle. Usually there are a few nudges in a row if I pay attention for a few minutes. They aren't rhymthmic or in the same spot each time. They also feel a little like involuntary muscle twitches -- like your eye feels if it twitches, but obviously a bit stronger. The last is a strange rolling sensation that feels like the baby is doing a somersault, something being turned inside you. It isn't painful but definitely odd. My husband was able to feel something like a rump moving in my lower belly.. he said it felt like something curved sliding under my skin. Movements feel strongest for me in the evening, and right after breakfast. I have read that the baby is often lulled to sleep by our movements during the day, so perhaps the best time to sense movement is when you get in bed. Prop yourself up a bit and lie on your back and wait a few minutes to feel anything, then switch to your left side, still slightly propped. This may help you sense movement. I feel almost nothing, even in my 21st week, when I'm standing/ walking, but do sense movements sitting/lying down. I think the slight cramping sensations are minor round ligament pain. I get that too. No baby movements have been painful to me.. I don't think they get so until they start pressing into the ribs. I have read it is normal for us 1st time moms not to feel movements til the 24th week.. that's why the kick count is done at 28 wks. I still have days of just two nudges right after very active somersault days. Good luck on feeling the little one soon!
