Excessive thirst is a symptom of diabetes, and gestational diabetes can
develop as the placenta develops. (Of course, a pregnant body needs a
lot of water, so it may just be a symptom of pregnancy). Most doctors
test for gd around 28 weeks, though some check around 24 weeks. I would
call your doctor and ask when she/he is going to test. Know that even
if you have gd it is not an urgent problem at this point. A few weeks
won't hurt anything, though in the meantime I would cut out sugar
(especially juice, soda and candy), and try to limit your carbos a
little. Stick with complex carbohydrates (potatoes rather than chips),
and try to eat protein with every carbohydrate. And relax. You're
probably just pregnant!
