I just went on a Carribean cruise at 16 weeks pregnant and had no problems at all. I totally agree with the last poster though -- you want to avoid mosquito-ridden areas because you cannot use repellent (toxic to baby) and right now there are all kinds of diseases like West Nile in the mosquito population -- not just malaria and dengue fever. I avoided trips to the interior in Mexico and stayed on the waterfront to avoid mosquitos -- missed the pyramids but oh well.

You can use sunscreen.. use lots because bad sunburn with a fever won't be good for you or the baby. I've heard to avoid water skiing and such because water can be forced into the vagina and upward. However, swimming should be fine. I did a "Swim with the Sting Rays" out in the ocean off Grand Cayman.

The other serious concern besides mosquitoes, and the one that is harder to control, is your food purity. Be very careful what you eat -- don't drink any unsealed water or eat any fruit that you don't peel yourself. Try to eat in resorts that cater to Americans and avoid buffets.

Despite all these precautions, but you should have a great time and be fine. Be safe traveling -- I don't know when your original post was, but if you're still going in light of the events this week, I wish you the best.
