Re: Carribean Vacation/PregnantFrom: Anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 15 Sep 2001 11:15:57 -0500 (CDT)
Before going, I would definitely find out what they use to control the mosquito population. In hot humid areas in the Carribean and Pacific they typically have problems with mosquitos. When I was 15-16 weeks pregnant my husband and I went to the Club Med in Tahiti. Every evening they sprayed for mosquitos and now I am worried bout the possible harm my exposure to the pesticide could hace caused my baby. I called a pesticide info. line and I was basically told that the harmful effects of the spray can still linger in the air even after the smell has gone away. Of course it depends on the chemicals that are used and your degree of exposure but if had known that they were going to spray every night and potentially put my baby in danger I wouldn't have gone. God luck to you. > >Is it okay to go on an international vacation (3 hours flight) while 8-9 >weeks pregnant?? If not, is there anything I should adviod (sun, pool, >water)?? > >Thanks.
