15 weeks twins/contractions/3rd pregnancy

Cramping awakened me in the night and continued into the day. I went to the clinic and nothing was done or examined except my urine. In the evening the cramps turned into contractions that were painful. I was scared to death and was ready to believe that this may be the end. We went to the ER and waited around for hours. I was told that it was not an emergency! Because my cervix had not changed, and an U/S showed the twins were healthy, nothing was done. They sent me home. They seemed to think that I didn't know what contractions felt like and that I probably was just getting the flu. I know what contractions feel like, and I can feel the uterus getting hard each time. They never even tried to feel them externally for themselves. I know that the attitude among doctors is to let nature take care to keep or abort babies this early. This attitude is so frustrating, because I look and feel five or six months pregnant and have every reason to believe that they are healthy. I however, do not trust my body to do the right thing. Don't I have any options at this point to keep my babies from miscarrying? Don't the drugs that they use later in pregnancy for preterm labor have a chance to work in early pregnancy? How do I get taken seriously? And when do I really need to make them worry? Everything I read says that contractions are warning signs!
