Is induction advisable?From: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Sep 2001 18:25:28 -0500 (CDT)
I am 40 weeks and 5 days pregnant with my first.I have been 1-2 cm dilated, 90% effaced, and at -2 station for over two weeks now. I have tried: blue and black cohosh, lots of sex, prolonged nipple stimulation, and castor oil with no results. I have an induction scheduled in 4 days--Monday-- at 41 weeks and 2 days. My fear is that my cervix is not "ripe" enough to successfully induce and I will end up one of those women who is in hard, long labor for 20 hours and then ends up with a c-section. I am torn between going for the induction on Monday or waiting another week, in hopes that I'll be more ripe and have an easier time. I can't get a good answer from my midwife (maybe because there is no good answer!) The burden of this decision is wearing on me heavily and causing a lot of emotional distress. I would appreciate your opinion on this. Am I setting myself up for an awful labor and probable c-section? Or am I a good candidate for induction? Thank you! Amy, Clarksville, TN
