Hi Michelleg, I had a premie at 31 weeks and have had alot of contractions this time and was monitored via u/s by a perinatologist to check for cervical length. When I was 31 weeks she told me anything over 1.5cm was good and anything over 2.5cm was great. Also, she checked for funneling and I had none (did they mention anything to you about this?).... she pressed on the top of my uterus while monitoring to see if the inside of my cervix opened up with pressure. 3 pounds at 28 weeks is really good size (that is what they told me to expect at 30 weeks). The peri suggested a fetal-fibronectin test as it can give a better idea of whether or not labor is a risk in the next two weeks. If the test is negative there is something like a 95% chance you WILL NOT go into labor in the next two weeks.... if it is positive there is something like a 30-50% chance of going into labor in the next two weeks (I think those are the numbers for a positive). Ask your doctor about that test!! If it is negative it will allay alot of worry... if it is positive you know the more aggressive measures are needed (bedrest, terb etc.). Hope things go well.
