To Stephanie about KegalFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 Aug 2001 21:26:14 -0500 (CDT)
Stephanie...there are plenty of studies out about the kegal exercise. Perhaps Dr. Braun has not read them - only he knows. I can speak from personal experience that they help/helped me a great deal. I also used to teach natural childbirth classes and they helped my students. One woman had very serious problems with a vagina that was prolapsing and seriously stretched out. They x-rayed her vagina [or was it an ultrasound? I don't remember]. Anyway, it was really stretched out and shaped strange. After she did kegals every day for several weeks, the vagina was re-examined and it had made tremendous improvement. When I saw those two "photos" side by side, I was even more convinced that they can help. Remember, the "Kegal" exercise is really exercising your pubococcygeous muscle [ I KNOW I didn't spell that right!!]. It's much like a hammock - like your pelvic floor - and it supports your vagina, rectum, etc. Any muscle benefits from exercise, and this one is no exception. In my opinion, I would urge you to keep "kegaling". Good luck! ~Kristy B.
