Poor uterine blood flow / placenta abruption?From: SarahB (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 Aug 2001 18:54:08 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I am 39 with my 4th (35 weeks). My 2nd was born preterm at 31 weeks due to placenta abruption after preterm labor at 30 weeks. #1 and #3 were term. Since my 3rd I've had surgery on my uterus and I also had a pelvic venogram which showed that the blood flow to areas of my uterus was very congested (blood pooling in several areas and grossly enlarged veins). I have been having alot of uterine irritability since 18 weeks and in the last two weeks it has increased and become quite a nuisance (10+ in an hour). I have been to L&D for montoring twice this week because they are frequent and painful. THis week I also had some pink spotting independent of any exam etc. (my cervix is still closed but has shortened - normal I understand). The baby's head is not engaged etc. When I had the placenta abruption with #2 it was "occult" with just pink spotting and lots of painful contractions. Anyway, Is there any way to tell if there is a small abruption causing my recent increase in painful contractions versus just normal progression to eventual delivery? Could the previously mentioned blood flow problems be causing the uterine irritability? THe doctor on-call did ask me to return to L&D on Sunday for additional monitoring... The monitoring today indicated the baby seems to be just fine but his heart rate was accelerated for a period of time which concerned the doc/nurse. My blood pressure was also 140/89 when I first arrived (new for me) but it went down with rest to 103/60. THank you for your time!
