Pre-conception testing for toxoplasmosis antibodies?

Dear doctors,

A question came up on another board, to which we don't have the answer. For women who are trying to conceive, and who have been around cats their entire lives, is it a good idea to have a test for toxoplasmosis antibodies *before* getting pregnant so the doctos knows that the antibodies were already there? Or is there something about antibodies that lets you know if they've been there a long time?

My husband and I are trying to conceive our first child, and I've always been around cats. In fact, we have one now. I would *love* for my husband to have to clean the litter box throughout the pregnancy!! But, chances are I've already got the antibodies, no? Is there a possibility of re-exposure?

What should one do at this point? Test for antibodies, or wait until after getting pregnant to do tests? Or does it matter?

Thanks! Judi
