To Selmon WeltFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 Aug 2001 12:13:35 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Dr. Welt, I appreciate your comments. I was the poster who wrote the "hehehe" when I said my husband snuck me some M&M's. It wasn't that I was trying to act "sneaky" by writing that - but it was more of an uncomfortable "hehehe". I stated that I had felt guilty for breaking the rules, but I felt like I was starving to death and couldn't cope with my labor. And I even had an I.V. with glucose in it. Anyway, the doctors back then [21 years ago] were very strict with me and had a terrible bedside manner at times [it was the military] so I figured that they were just being too rigid [you have to remember that I was a very immature 20 years old back then - I'm now 41]. I asked the question about eating because I REALLY wanted to know, as I have a serious low blood sugar problem. Now I have my answers. It saddens me to know that many who "cheat" would be the first ones to sue - but I assure you it wouldn't be me because I knew I was breaking the rules. What confuses me is how some doctors let their patients eat all they want, but others don't. That's another reason I asked. [my sister was brought a big bowl of soup, a sandwich, and dessert while she was in labor!]. There seems to be so many conflicting answers to so many questions that it's hard to know what to accept or believe. Anyway, I wasn't trying to rub you or any other doctor the wrong way. However, I msut say that Dr. Braun's response to me was not only sarcastic and uncalled for, but extremely unprofessional. If he was my doctor, he'd be fired on the spot.
