Placenta Accreta

I've had one prior c-section and am pregnant again. My u/s indicated that I have an anterior placenta. I've read that this combination can increase the risk of placenta accreta but can't find a statistic showing how likely this is. I will be having another c-section. In the archives one of the docs (can't remember which) noted that "every effort should be made to determine if a placenta accreta is present prior to surgery." How would this determination be made and what steps would be taken if a placenta accreta were indicated? In the event there were a placenta accreta, is there any advantage to having a c-section over a vaginal birth? Thank you.
