Car accident and timing of complicationsFrom: Alisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Aug 2001 09:20:43 -0500 (CDT)
Greetings, Having searched the archives, I still have a question for the forum. I am 22w2d and was involved in a low speed car accident yesterday (rear end fender bender), and yes, was wearing a seatbelt slung low. I am somewhat crampy since but not with any true regularity, slight lower back pain, no leaking of amniotic fluid nor spotting, and feeling the occasional contraction (nothing new in that). I went to the dr., who basically said wait and see; the fetus is not viable at this point and that there is nothing we can do. They did check heartbeat, leaking of fluid, cervix, etc. but I did not have an u/s nor any type of monitoring. As I understand it, the concern is more for had the placenta sheered away from the uterine wall, rather than injury to the fetus itself. I have another appointment in 2 weeks and want to know at what point can I stop worrying about complications from the accident (read: preterm labor)? Many thanks
-- Amc
