'all or nothing' rule

Doctors, I've seen you reference the "all or nothing" rule several times in the archives(where if something bad happens to you, the result will be EITHER miscarriage OR nothing -- no fetal damage at all).

My question is, how far into the pregnancy does this rule extend? Does it last though the first trimester? I was exposed to toxic fumes and am terrified that they may have hurt my baby.

Thanks for your time.
