'Washed' sperm - life span?

I had read somewhere on the internet that the life span of the "washed" sperm that are injected during an IUI is just 5-10 hours and thus it is critical to determine exactly when ovulation is happening to time the IUI. However, when I asked my doctor, she said they are like regular sperm and find mucous to get into and can live for up to a week. Which is it? Does anyone have any information? Thanks!
