ob vs family doctor

My doctor (family practice) also performs my gynecological exams. I don't think she is an ob, but she does a lot of prenatal care and deliveries. I have never asked her if she has any special certification (is that the word I want to use?) in obstetrics or gynecology.

I know I could just ask her what her medical background is, but is there a public resource that anyone knows of where you can check on the medical background of your doctor?

I am in my late 20's, ttc, and have no significant health problems. Is it a poor choice to use my family doctor (who I like immensely) for the duration of a pregnancy, assuming no complications arise? My mom is adamant that I switch to an ob if I get pregnant. Any suggestions or advice would be helpful. Thanks.
