Re: solid food following a c-section

My IV was removed only after I was up and out of bed many hours after the surgery, and only after I was able to urinate. That took a while, though. I had an extremely strong urge to empty my bladder because I had been receiving IV fluids for nearly 12 hours.

While the IV was still in, they removed the foley catheter that keeps the bladder empty during surgery and sent me off to the bathroom. I think the catheter left my urethra swollen, making it impossible to urinate right away. I felt like my bladder was the fullest it had ever been, but it was as though things were "sealed off" or something. Once I was finally able to urinate, they could remove my IV.

As for foods, it went something like this:

11am... checked into hospital. No food from this point on, only ice chips

4pm... possibility of c-section arises. No more ice chips.

9pm... c-section

12am... leave recovery to go back to my room. DYING of thirst. A nurse says I have "good bowel sounds." so she brings me the best cranberry juice I have ever had and some ice water a bit later.

Breakfast and lunch are liquid menu...

Dinner is real food!

Best of luck, Leeza!
