Meredith,

I've seen your messages regarding the Monistat in the past few days. Just my non-doctor opinion, but if you are being irritated by the Monistat externally and you are still feeling internal symptoms as well, as you may since you are not using it internally.......... I would do one of two things:

1) Use acidophilus capsules internally and by mouth. Your health food store can guide you on this one. I've already checked with drs. here and with my OB and they concur that this is safe to do. It restores the pH balance and should help prevent both yeast and bacterial infections.

2) Call your dr. and ask if he/she is agreeable to a run of Terazol 7, another yeast cream. I always end up having to use this. I feel burning with Monistat but after many years I realized that at least in my case, Monistat wasn't causing the burning, it was just not helping. Terazol really helps me and I took it during my 10th week. I don't know if your dr. will be agreeable since he/she seems ultra-cautious, but you might check and see.

Yeast won't hurt the pregnancy if you don't treat it -- the worst it can do is cause thrush in the baby's mouth when it's born -- but it can drive you crazy if it gets bad enough! Good luck.
