If the cat is an indoor cat, there is probably no risk at all. I have three cats, so I've been concerned about this, too. My OB said that the way you get it is from inhaling dry cat feces (hence the avoid-the-litterbox rule) from a cat who has killed and eaten rodents. Usually those would be outdoor cats. If the cat is an outdoor cat, couldn't you ask them to move the box to a laundry room or something? Surely the friend would understand your concerns! Good luck!
