preconception questionFrom: Victoria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 19 Jul 2001 21:15:20 -0500 (CDT)
My husband is in the US Navy and I will be going off the pill when he leaves on his next deployment so that we can start hoping to conceive when he returns. This will be early next year. I have been taking an OTC prenatal vitamins since last summer because they are the only multivitamins I can stomach. I just started taking calcium as well. I have been eating a fairly balanced diet lately. I am trying to get into a healthy lifestyle now since I hope to become pregnant next year and breastfeed. My question concerns folic acid. My prenatal contains 100% of a pregnant women's recommended amount of folate. Should a take an additional foilc acid supplement, or is what I am getting out of the prenatal sufficient? Other than diet and walking daily is there anything I should do to improve my prepregnancy health? Thank you so much for listening and for your time :o)
