Montgomery, MD: "Re: questions regarding amnio results: doctor or nurse" The perinatal nurse phoned yesterday to say that the results from the amnio indicated I was having a "normal" boy. I asked her what was tested for, ie. what genetic abnormalities this ruled out, which deletions or trisomys, etc. She couldn't answer. My question is: What are they looking for in a standard 18 week amniocentisis for a 36 year old woman? I did not opt for genetic testing and made no specific requests for the testing, but expected more detail with the results. Thank you.
