Re: DHA and pregnancyFrom: SarahB (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 11 Jul 2001 14:13:24 -0500 (CDT)
My hubbie did some research on this subject on the internet. As I understand from reading the articles, it is important to have sufficient intake of omega3 fatty acids in the 3rd trimester because it plays an important role in brain development as well as eye development... there is apparently alot of this taking place in the 3rd trimester. I had also read somewhere (thought it was an article written by Dr. Andrew Weil but I am unable to find it again) that the baby - as a parasite - can deplete the mother's supply if her diet is not sufficent in the 3rd trimester and this then contributes to the development of postpartum depression - so the author was recommending all pregnant women take a supplement in the 3rd trimester. There are also articles about omega 3 and its suspected role in regular depression. If you go to http://www.GOOGLE.COM and enter OMEGA 3 PREGNANCY you can find some of the articles I read about it. I am interested to hear what Dr. Montgomery thinks too.
