for Dr. Montgomery - bilateral pyelectasisFrom: Stacie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 11 Jul 2001 11:00:39 -0500 (CDT)
At my last u/s I was 21 wks. and the baby is measuring about 5-7 days ahead on avg. The perinatologist noted the fetus, which is male, has bilateral pyelectasis measuring 7.6mm on the right and 6.4mm on the left. He says it isn't significant at this point and feels his chances of outgrowing it are good. He is recommending I come back for reevaluation at 32 wks. Also worth noting is my AFI is 22cm, which he is calling upper normal limits. He recommended my one hour glucose tolerance test now instead of waiting because of the extra fluid. I am awaiting those results, which I am beginning to think are negative since it has been 3 days and no phone call. They only call if it is positive. I will call them. My questions are: 1) What are some possible reasons for the fluid retention in the kidneys given my AFI? Is this a good indicator that he is urinating regularly? 2) What are the odds he will outgrow this condition? 3) Is intervention necessary before birth? What about after? He said the bladder and everything else looks great. 4) Should I be evaluated before 32 weeks or is this reasonable? I was too stunned and speechless to ask these questions while I was still there and trying to get through to them is impossible. They are constantly swamped...I waited an hour and a half in the waiting room at my last appt! Houston needs more perinatologists!! Any answers you can give me are greatly appreciated. You Drs. are providing a wonderful service here!
