Re: Conception on 21st day?From: A (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 4 Jul 2001 16:11:17 -0500 (CDT)
Kim, 1) Usually ovulation is 14 days before your period starts. If your cycle is standard, this means your encounter was 7 days after -- unlikely to have conceived. Kudos for using a condom -- you know this makes it less likely to have conceived. 2) Period with clotting again probably means no conception or very early miscarriage, but still not impossible to be pregnant. 3) Yes, if you're very worried about it you can probably bring on symptoms of pregnancy without being pregnant. Just like any other medical condition -- you can find the symptoms if you look for them hard enough and worry too much. 4) False positives on home pregnancy tests are very rare. If that question means you already have a positive test, stop taking all of those herbs and vitamins at once and go see Planned Parenthood or a gynecologist you can trust to see what your options truly are. If you have not already taken a home pregnancy test, go buy one and take it. If it's negative, it may put you a bit at ease, and you should still go see Planned Parenthood and get it confirmed with a blood pregnancy test. These services are lowcost/free and probably confidential (depends on state residence). 5) Herbs are not guaranteed methods of abortion (or conception, etc.), and some of them can cause very severe bleeding that puts your life at risk, if they "work". Ephedra can cause you serious heart problems. This is very important for you to know. PLEASE go see a doctor if you suspect pregnancy -- there are all kinds of options available to you, and if you aren't pregnant, you can obtain a more reliable form of birth control such as the Pill or the Depo-Provera shot. Even if you don't plan to have sex again anytime soon, these will lighten your cycle, probably lessen your PMS symptoms if you have them, and protect you if you do end up in a sexual relationship again. I am not a doctor, but I can remember being where you are, a young person who has just become sexually active, and I know a little bit about herbs. I hope that everything goes well for you. Don't let anyone on this board or in your circle of family and friends intimidate you into waiting -- waiting will, at best, only reduce the number of options you have now.
