I have just found out that purinethol or, as we've known it 6-Mercaptopurine, is a potentially very dangerous drug to the fetus, my husband has been taking this for his Crohn's disease for several years (2+) and it has been working very well for him. We have had problems with infertility over the past year and it seems that both times I was actually pregnant (and had 2 miscarriages, within 4 months) chromosomal anomalies -such as a balanced translocation, and a trisomy- were found to be the cause of miscarriage. Well, I am also over-forty, relatively healthy and ovulating most of the time, and this is our first time trying to conceive; would anyone hazard a(n) (educated) guess about whether the 6-mercaptopurine could be a factor in our situation? My OB-GYN has a suspicion that it is, but my husband is somewhat reluctant (understandably so) to stop taking something so effective for him. I would certainly appreciate any input, or if there might be an article out there someone knows about that we could find about the 6MP...

Thanks, Rena
