Hi. Funny you asked this question. I am not a doctor, I do however work in a Hospital Laboratory and run these tests all of the time (I am also 31 weeks pregnant). I had a 1 hour GGT done at 28 weeks and the result was 146. I had probably 4 cookies and a piece of coffee cake about an hour before the drink. Different Doctor's use different ranges to interpret this test. My doctor wants a 3 hour GGT if the 1 hour is above 135. I know of another that uses 140. Since I was borderline high I asked to repeat the 1 hour GGT without eating something that could logically increase my result. If you are injesting 50 grams of glucose then it only makes sense that anything consumed close to the test with sugar in it could effect the results. After the office getting mad at me for (as they said "refusing the 3 hour GGT" I repeated the 1 hour and got 114. The doctor was still mad at me for not doing the 3 hour so to make her happy I did the 3 hour. I passed with flying colors. My sugar actually dropped to 51 at the 3 hour - and as I expected I felt like crap at that point. I just wanted to share my experience with you because it does sound so similar. One thing....I am pretty sure the 3 hour is the norm for people "failing" the 1 hour. Although I am now curious what my glu was at the 4 hour mark. Good Luck and congratulations on your baby!
