Yolk Sac

Hi,

I'm 8 weeks pregnant today and I had an ultra sound yesterday because I had been bleeding (not a lot, no cramping; it was fresh, bright red). Well, the doctor sees a pregnancy sac, but no yolk sac. We're both pessimistic that this is a healthy pregnancy, and from what I've read, this can't be fixed. Do you know of any reasons for why the yolk sac would not have developed? And if the yolk sac appears at about four weeks and deteriorates at nine to let the placenta take over, why haven't I miscarried? I still have some spotting and it has become brownish. I thought I saw some tissue (very little, almost stringy, like discharge).

We're waiting 'til Monday, July 2 (it's now Friday, June 29 and my bleeding started last Friday, stopped a few hours later and didn't come back until Wednesday night just before midnight) for another ultra sound and also for a blood test so we can compare HcG levels.

Thanks in advance for any opinions you might have.
