It is my understanding that there is a slightly higher risk of m/c with CVS than amnio. A lot of that depends on the experience of the testing center that you go to - a center that does a lot of CVS procedures tends to have lower risk, so you might want to ask them for their stats. With regard to limb deformity, I think that happened sometimes in the early days of CVS when they were still testing at 9 wks, before limb development was completed. Now they are very cautious not to do it before 10 wks and more typically do it at 11 wks when limb development is finished. They really date you very carefully by u/s before they do the procedure. You can either go transvaginally (in which case you might have some cramping) or transabdominally (although I wanted them to do it transabdominally b/c I knew the cramping would scare me to death if I got it, they couldn't b/c my placenta was in the way, so they did it transvaginally and I didn't have any cramping or pain). I was really glad I had it done - the peace of mind it gave me was amazing, but you need to assess the risks for yourself. I hope this is helpful, and good luck, Ally
