a few more ?'s re: early effacingFrom: jlee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Jun 2001 12:29:07 -0500 (CDT)
Dr. Montgomery, thanks for answering my previous question re: effacement. They have checked my cervix at two previous visits (25 wks and about 28 wks) and at that time my cervix was completely tight and not effaced or soft at all. So there was a marked change at the appointment yesterday with the effacement and softening, which I guess is why my dr. prescribed the terbutaline. I don't want to question him because he is a great doctor, but I guess I keep feeling like there is such a long way to go from 25% effacement to full labor, so I'm wondering if I really need to be so cautious. Could my cervix suddenly dilate and efface quickly at this point, even though it took ages for it to do so last time? Is that the concern? It just seemed like my cervix never changed much on its own last time till I was overdue, so I guess I'm tending to be overconfident this time. Also, the terbutaline has slowed the contractions a little bit, but I'm still very crampy in the front and back -- it feels like I'm having menstrual cramps most of the time. But my uterus isn't always hardening with these cramps, so can I ignore this (besides the pain/discomfort part of it) or do I need to keep a watch on it? Thanks for answering these questions! I didn't think of all of this till after I left yesterday, and it's hard to get through to my OB office sometimes. Thanks again for all your help! :)
