Irregular Cycles and ovulationFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 22 Jun 2001 16:13:12 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, Since going off birth control pills about three years ago I have been very irregular. At first it would be as long as 60 days, but recently it has been closer to 30-37. However, I am now on day 63, so you can see why I am concerned. My primary question is this: Last month I had no symptoms of ovulation nor pms and I did not menstrate. I assume I did not ovulate on that cycle. This month I did have ovulatory symptoms about 20 days ago and for about 14 days I have been having severe pms symptoms much worse than normal. I just took a HPT and it was negative, although I may have miscalcuated my ovulation, if it indeed did occur. If I have the hormonal symptoms of ovulation and of PMS did I likely ovulate as well? Is it possible to have a longer cycle (although I have no period date from the month before to work with) and still have ovulated? Can the stress of all this be causing a delay in my onset of menstration? My OB-Gyn said that ovulation is almost always 14 days before menstration, however, I can I be feeling ovulation and then not having a period for such a delayed time? Thanks!
