Irregular periods post partumFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 19 Jun 2001 13:16:53 -0500 (CDT)
My son was born Sept. 11, 2000. I am still breastfeeding him, but my period returned on April 30. I have not had a period since then, but have has some spotting. I have had a negative pregnancy test. My questions: Is it normal for breastfeeding to interfere with ovulation even after you have your first period? I did have some anovulatory cycles (approx. 3/year) before my son was born so it could be a return to normal. On those occasions, my doctors would jump start my period with provera. Is that useful considering that I am breast feeding? We would like to start ttc, but can't (obviously) if I'm anovulatory. Is the only way for my body to return to normal to stop breastfeeding? Thank you for your help. This forum has been invaluable.
