35 weeks pregnant / contractions and UTIFrom: stefani (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 11 Jun 2001 10:16:38 -0500 (CDT)
hi, i am 35 weeks pregnant. on friday night i went to the bathroom and found blood on the toilet paper. i went to labor and delivery and it was discovered that I had a urinary tract infection. during this time i was monitored and found to be having contractions, which I didn't even know about !!! I had been feeling pretty crampy all day long, but thought it was the usual discomfort associated with pregnancy. after an internal exam, i was told my cervix was long and closed. they kept me overnight and pumped me with IV fluids and antibiotics. the next morning i was still having contracts though irregularly and not close together. I was given another internal at this point, and my cervix was still long and closed. My doctor sent me home with a prescription for oral antiobiotics and told me she felt the contractions were caused by the infection. Should i be concerned about pre-term labor at this point?? I feel much better now, but still contract (though not often) sometimes. I go to the doctors again wednesday. she told me that she wouldn't stop the contractions with medication if they continued, because though it would be better to wait a couple of weeks, it wouldn't be the biggest deal in the world if the baby was born now. Am i in danger of labor even though my cervix was not dilated???
