Karyn, I am sorry you are going through this. I have been there and know it's very hard. I'm not a doctor, but from personal experience this is what I know. Sometimes it is difficult to detect the heartbeat in early pregnancy. However, if a baby truly has no heartbeat that means (I think) that the pregnancy is not viable--which is to say the baby is not alive, and won't grow anymore. If that's the case, you won't need to terminate the pregnancy.. it has essentially ended already and you will miscarry naturally. I hope this won't be the case for you. You might want to call your doctor and insist that he/she give you more information about your status. These situations are stressful enough and getting only vague information makes it worse.
