16 weeks pregnant and 5cm fibroidFrom: Leila (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 5 Jun 2001 23:13:00 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I just had my first ultrasound at 16 weeks and was told that the fibroid which was 1cm in diameter last year is now 5 cm (it sits like a ball in the uterus). I understand that pregnancy hormones cause this and sometimes after the pregnancy it shrinks back. My questions are these: 1) Should I have any concern that this will interfere with the successful completion of the pregnancy? The u/s technician said the fibroid is at a "favorable place" and should not be a problem in delivery. Regardless I have read accounts of miscarriages due to fibroids and am curious about the degree of risk... 2) Would this warrant more ultrasounds in the future? What is the ideal/realistic follow-up practice for a situation like this? Thank you so much for your time, Leila
