Re: Starting Follistim Cycle with IUI's for first timeFrom: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 5 Jun 2001 20:19:21 -0500 (CDT)
I went through 5 cycles of injectibles and Glucophage with just intercourse, and a number of cycles with Glucophage alone, and Glucophage and Clomid with before that. The first time I tried injectibles, I became pregnant, but it was an ectopic pregnancy unfortunately. We were going to switch to IVF, but we'd have to pay entirely out of our pocket for that (no insurance coverage at all), so we decided to try IUI as an interim step to IVF. We caught a viable pregnancy on the first time for that! The whole process has been 20 months or so, but not all of those months were cycles (some were vacation, some months I took a month off because of cysts, recovering from the ectopic, etc.) The nurses in my Dr's office always gave me the HCG shot. I suppose I could have had my husband learn do it, but I wanted to spare him (and me) the "ookiness" of having to stick his wife with a big old 2-inch needle :) It's one thing if I am injecting myself, but I had a psychological barrier against having him do it, I guess. -Andrea
