Where I live I am not offered ultrasound until 20 weeks. I'm 11 weeks now. Two close friends of mine have had severe abnormalities diagnosed at this late stage which is v traumatic. I would like to pay for an earlier ultra sound for peace of mind. At what stage is it possible for an ultra sound to be effective in detecting severe abnormalities?
