I will be 39 when my son is born. We had a level 2 ultrasound done by a perinatalogist to check for Down syndrome markers at 13 weeks and 19 weeks. The doctor made a comment about the nuchal fold measurement abnormalities being best detected early (13-14 weeks).. apparnetly they have the best statistical data on what is possible abnormal at this age of development.... She did the second to check on the heart and internal organ development. I have another scheduled for 30 weeks to check the heart again since my nephew was born with hypoplastic left ventricle syndrome. So that is what the perinatalogist that I saw did and told me.
