Doc questionFrom: Caroline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 25 May 2001 11:21:47 -0500 (CDT)
Thanks in advance for your advice. My ob-gyn told me the pathology results from my D&C were inconclusive, so we both assumed my miscarriage was caused by a hormonal problem. I then went to a maternal-fetal specialist who diagnosed a luteal phase defect and put me on Serophene. Then, much to my (and my ob's) surprise, the cells DID grow out and we were told it was a Trisomy 22 chromosomal defect that caused the miscarriage. SO ... my question ... Do I still need to be treated for the hormonal problem even though that's not what caused my miscarriage? Can that alone cause another miscarriage? How do I know for sure whether I have a luteal phase defect? (The doctor did an endometrial biopsy but maybe I should get a second opinion--not sure.) Lastly ... any idea what Trisomy 22 means? Thank you.
