Being induced tomorrow and I am scared! I have a few questions......From: Chelsey (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 22 May 2001 16:30:41 -0500 (CDT)
I am being induced tomorrow night using cervical gel (not sure what the exact name of it is) and then pitocin on Thursday morning. With my 1st pregnancy I had a natural delivery with no drugs or interventions (fast labor too, 6 hours) and my daughter was 7lbs 6ozs. This baby is measuring at almost 9 pounds and I am a little over 38 weeks. My OB and I were concerned because of the c-section history in my family when babies are over 8 pounds, my aunts, mother, ect have all had c-sect's due to small pelvis and larger baby. Ok, now for my questions.... What exactly will the gel do to my cervix? Will this cause contractions or pain? What are the risks (if any)? With the pitocin is it very likely that I will be able to go epidural/drug free? What are the standard procedures for keeping the mother in bed on monitors for labor while on pitocin? My OB knows I do not want to lay in bed so I am hoping the hospital will let me up and move around. I guess I am just nervous about this whole thing so any information or advice is greatly appreciated:-) Thanks!
