Folic Acid, Prenatals, and a Twin PregnancyFrom: Alaska (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 5 May 2001 08:37:38 -0500 (CDT)
Yesterday I was diagnosed with a twin pregnancy, possibly monozygotic (sp?). There is one gestational sac with two embryos and two yolk sacs. They both look great considering how early this all still is in the game. I'm taking a prenatal with 800 mcg of folic acid. I also take an additional supplement of 400 mcg. (I was on Tegretol for four years until December. I'm not taking nearly as much folic acid as I used to - 4mg, but I still want to take enough...) Is that 1.2 mg going to be more than sufficient? Is the one prenatal vitamin still enough? I was in such shock yesterday that I forgot to ask, and since this will mean a perinatologist for me (I have a shirodkar cerclage in place) I won't be seeing my new doctor until I'm 9 weeks. If I recall, their little nervous systems are developing, uh, now. Thanks in advance for your reply.
