Jennifer, seems I have the same trouble with my veins that you do. I had my 3 hour test, plus other blood work done. When I finally left, I looked like someone who was desperately trying to shoot drugs in my arms, it was disgusting and was very painful.

A lot of women fail the 1 hour but pass the 3 hour. Me I failed both ( both pregnancies) but have never had to use insulin. Eating healthy, balanced meals keeps it under control. I've gotten pretty good at knowing when my levels are low, and I keep juice and things like that around, to boost it back up.

At 18 weeks along I had sugar in my urine. My doctor sent me for a one hour glucose test which came back high, making me take the 3 hour GTT. That ended up coming back fine, after a LOT of pain! I have bad veins and ended up being stuck NINE times and even ended up having to take blood from the tops of my hands. After that, I have had no sugar in my urine again. Well, I hit 27 weeks and just flunked another one hour GTT. I REALLY don't want to take the 3 hour GTT after my last time (you would never know I delivered two other children drug free)! My question is this: I have no other symptoms of gestational diabetes (I have searched books for signs and symptoms) and wonder if there is any other way to avoid or do this test different. What do you think? Also, is it possible to just start an IV line on someone and do it that way. I don't want to be stuck nine times by four different nurses again! Thanks.... Jennifer (27 weeks 1 day)
