Re: Risk of DS

Hi, I wanted to share my experience with the AFP. I had a 1 in 180 chance of having a baby with DS and then after the U/S showed I was a HALF of week less far along, they lowered my chances to 1 in 500. So that short of time can make a difference. She was "normal".

However,21 months ago gave birth to a baby boy, named Alex, who does have DS. I just want to reassure you, that although the odds are your child is "normal"..that DS is not something to be terrified of. I understand your fears, as I too was scared, but he is the most precious little boy I could ever imagine! SO ADORABLE :) And he is just like any other baby, just takes a little longer to reach milestones. I cannot imagine life without him :)

Please don't let anyone pressure you into an amnio..as there are very real risks involved. Even if the odds of losing the baby are "only" 1 in 200..if you are that one, odds mean nothing. Besides..why risk your baby's life just to "know"

Good luck, Lisa
